Free at last?

Martin Luther King wrote those words in his famous “I have a dream' speech. What did he mean when he hoped that all Afro-Americans could shout out those words, “Free at last”?

What do we mean?

Our slave ship exhibition is a project undertaken to examine the history and legacy of slavery in its various forms.
The legacy of slavery that can be seen operating today in the continued process of de-humanisation. The
legacy of slavery that exists amongst the descendants of slaves, slave traders and slave merchants. And not
forgetting of course the continued practice of slavery today, which will create tomorrow's legacy.

So are we free? And if so, free from what?
